A late Large Yellow Underwing in the UV trap this morning along with 2 November Moth, 1 Red-green Carpet, 1 Dark Chestnut and the migrant micro Rusty Dot Pearl.

29th October 2006
A cool damp night so didnt expect much, however a reasonble catch for the time of year. Silver Y 5, November Moth sp and Yellow-line Quaker 2, 1 each of Blair's Shoulder-knot, Turnip moth, Red-green Carpet, Deep-brown Dart, Green Brindled Crescent. Also 1 new species for the garden a Feathered Thorn, no photo it left at high speed!

28th October 2006
A warm damp night and a much better catch in the UV trap. Most numerous was Yellow-line Quaker with 4, singles of Blair's Shoulder-knot, Turnip moth, Angle Shades, Common Marbled Carpet, November moth and the 4th record of Cypress Carpet. This species appears to be established in the area. The first record this year of the migrant micro Rusty Dot Pearl with 3 in the trap.

A warmer night so an improved catch. 2 Angle Shades and Turnip Moth, 1 Blair's Shoulder-knot, Red-line Quaker, Lesser Yellow Underwing, November Moth and the 3rdCypress Carpet for the garden.

20th October 2006
A cool clear night with blustery winds meant very little in the moth trap, only 1 Blair's Shoulder-knot and 2 migrants a Silver Y and a Rush Veneer.

19th October 2006
A wet night so the UV trap had limited success. 2 Deep-brown Dart, November Moth and Rush Veneer, 1 Blair's Shoulder-knot, Lesser Yellow Underwing and Spruce Carpet.

19th October 2006
A typical catch for the time of year in the UV trap with Blair's Shoulder-knot 4, November Moth 1, Red-line Quaker 1, Turnip Moth 1, Lunar Underwing 1.

18th October 2006
A further 2 species added to the garden list. I was short of the expected autumn moths. At my UV trap 2 Blair's Shoulder-knot, 2 Spruce Carpet, 1 November Moth. The 2 new species Barred Sallow and Green Brindled Crescent. Photos below.

17th October 2006
For the first time in months absolutely no moths in the trap last night, a sign of things to come. Only a Spruce Carpet sitting on the wall nearby was found.

15th October 2006
The UV trap produced another new species for the garden. A Beaded Chestnut another autumn species previously missing from my list. Also 8 Blair's Shoulder-knot and 2 Shuttle-shaped Dart and a Common Marbled Carpet and an Angle Shades.

Another new moth for the garden list came in the form of a Brindled Green, see photo below. 10th October 2006
A murky still night with some drizzle led to an improved catch in the UV moth trap. Blair's Shoulder-knot 5, 4 Feathered Ranunculus, 2 Turnip moth. Singles of Lunar Underwing, Dark Chestnut, Rush Veneer and Grey Pine Carpet, 2nd garden record photo below right although I have my doubts, it might be a Pine Carpet. Also recorded a new species for the garden with 2 Red-green Carpet, see photo below left.
Red-green Carpet Grey Pine Carpet or Pine Carpet?

8th October 2006
Another cool clear night with a full moon so not great for moth trapping. In the UV trap just 5 Feathered Ranunculus, 3 Turnip moths, 2 Common Marbled Carpet and 1 each of Lunar Underwing, Silver Y and Rush Veneer.

3rd October 2006
A cool, clear night with a moon so a limited catch in the UV moth trap. 6 Feathered Ranunculus, 5 Lunar Underwing, 3 Turnip Moth, 2 Blair's Shoulder-knot and Rush Veneer. Also a single Common Marbled Carpet. Confirmation that the Ladybird found on the 29th September was indeed a Harlequin and also the first record for North Somerset.
