Results for the UV moth trap last night, Heart & Dart 11, Heart & Club 11, Riband Wave 4, Uncertain, Flame, Large Yellow Underwing, Elephant Hawkmoth, Turnip all 3, Willow Beauty, Dark Arches, Garden Carpet 2 of each and singles of Light Emerald, Double-striped Pug, Silver Y, Buff Ermine, Mottled Beauty and Common Pug, The Coronet, Fan-foot and Double Square-spot.

The first Privet Hawkmoths for the year in the trap last night with 3 caught, also Eyed and Elephant Hawkmoth 1 of each. Other moths trapped were Willow Beauty 4, Heart & Dart 18, Heart & Club 21, Turnip 5, Dark Arches 3, The Flame 4, Buff Arches 1, Large Yellow Underwing 1, Treble Brown-spot 1, Bright-line Brown-eye 1 , Double-striped Pug 1, Cabbage Moth 1, Coronet 1, Lime-speck Pug 1 and another Bordered Straw. A warmish night and the MV trap used so a very good nights mothing. Heart & Dart 48, Heart & Club 14, Common Marbled Carpet 9, Riband Wave 6, Dark Arches 5, 4 Swallowtail Moth and Marbled Minor, 3 Brimstone, Bright-line Brown-eye, Shuttle-shaped Dart and Buff Ermine, 2 Buff-tip, Vines Rustic, Angle Shades, Willow Beauty, Green Pug, Magpie Moth and Common Pug. Singles of Small Yellow Wave (2nd record), Light Emerald, Treble Brown-spot, Clouded Silver, Green Silver-lines, The Flame, Large Yellow Underwing, Peppered Moth, Common Footman, Snout, Setaceous Hebrew Character, Spectacle, Grey Dagger, The Uncertain, Cabbage Moth and Garden Carpet. Hawkmoths included 1 Eyed, 1 Poplar and 6 Elephant. Yet another night to produce new garden ticks with Blue-bordered Carpet (left), Small Dusty Wave (right) and a Grey Pine Carpet. Also today the 2nd record of a Scarlet Tiger this time day flying.

Ran the UV trap with a lower catch expected but still a good selection. Green Pug 3, Common Marbled Carpet 4, Bright-line Brown-Eye 1, Heart & Dart 24, Heart & Club 7, Double-striped Pug 2, The Flame 1, Dark Arches 2, Flame Shoulder 1, Brimstone 1, Small Square-spot 1. Also 3 very good moths trapped with another Mocha (2nd record), more evidence of migration with a Bordered Straw (2nd record) and another new species for the garden an Alder Moth.

Another good moth trapping night with the MV trap run. A varied and fairly large catch with Green Pug 4, Pale Tussock 1, Elephant Hawkmoth 7, Small Elephant Hawkmoth 1, Heart & Dart 85, Common Pug 3, Figure of 80 2, Peppered Moth 2, The Fern 1, Common Marbled Carpet 3, Setaceous Hebrew Character 2, Shuttle-shaped Dart 1, Light Arches 1, The Flame 4, Treble Lines 1, Clouded Silver 1, Dark Arches 1, Bright-line Brown-eye 1, Light Emerald 2, Straw Dot 1, Heart & Club 7, Poplar Grey 2, Vines Rustic 2, Tawny Marbled Minor 1, Marbled Minor 3, Treble Brown Spot 1, The Snout 2, Oak Nyctoline 1, Orange Footman 1, Common Wainscot 1, Small Fanfoot 1, Purple Bar 1, The Pheonix 1. Also from left to right below Blood-vein 1, Beautiful Hook-tip 1, and new for the garden a Small Yellow Wave.

Possibly a sign of moth and butterfly migration, at least 4 day flying silver Y's and a Painted lady in the garden today.

Ran the moth trap last night with the following results, Common Marbled Carpet 2, Treble Lines 3, Heart & Dart 3, Vines Rustic 3. Singles of Shuttle-shaped Dart, Lime-speck Pug, Bright-line Brown-eye a Pale Tussock and a Turnip moth.

A warm day followed by a warm night improved the number and selection of moths trapped last night. 1 Garden Carpet, 1 Lime-speck Pug, a Double-striped Pug, 5 Heart & Dart and 6 Treble Lines. A Common Marbled Carpet a Shuttle-shaped Dart and a Setaceous Hebrew Character also in the trap. A Poplar Hawkmoth found outside the trap, see photo.
