Supporter of the National Macro Moth Recording Scheme

Welcome to Gordano Moths, the website of the Clevedon Moth Group. On this site I will attempt to detail records of all the Macro Moth species found in and around the Gordano Valley. The recording area is the 2 towns of Portishead and Clevedon and the countryside and villages nearby. The area covered starts in the north at the River Avon and runs south to the River Yeo. It is bordered on the north west by the Bristol Channel and in the south east by the M5 motorway and falls entirely within Vice County VC6 North Somerset (Map).

The 4 main contributors to this site are, Paul Chapman, Howard Taffs, Jason Williams and myself and we all regularly run light traps in our respective gardens and also run portable light traps in likely habitats. We also check for day flying species and use other methods such as artificial pheromones to find species that are not attracted to light.

Due the large numbers of species, we mainly concentrate on the range of moth species known as Macros, micro moths are not completely forgotten and when they can be identified are included.

My intention through this site is to record and photograph all the Macro Moth species found in this area. Also to provide a valuable resource for the locations and status of each species recorded.
